More campers in your crew
When the group grows — children, in-laws, friends who keep inviting themselves — you need a bigger RV. There are many classes of RV’s, from the modest teardrop trailer to a sumptuous home on wheels in Class A, and bunk models exist precisely for this.
Just the two of us?
Empty nesters and solo travellers often go the other way, into a sleeker new Class B. Climbing a ladder to reach an upper bunk also becomes less appealing over time. And if you want to be properly off-grid, that is a different style of RV again.
Rising fuel cost
An ageing motorised RV, or an ageing tow vehicle, gets expensive to run. At some point the fuel bill overtakes everything else and a newer, more efficient model simply makes financial sense.
Repair and maintenance
Some repairs cost more than the vehicle is worth — particularly the RV-specific ones.
Warning signs
- Water damage from a leaking roof
- Worn out appliances, especially the refrigerator
- A failing water heater
- Damaged wheel bearings, trailer brakes and tires
